Crypto from zero.
This page is for people who have never bought, held, sent, or received crypto before. The goal is to get you comfortable enough to purchase USDC and understand what you are doing before you move on to the payment guide.
Crypto transfers are usually irreversible, and the network matters. Always double-check the token, network, and wallet address before sending.
1. What is crypto?
Cryptocurrency is a type of digital asset that can be sent between blockchain addresses. Instead of a bank account number, crypto uses a wallet address. Different blockchains have different networks, and the same token can sometimes exist on more than one network.
For Sequence Matters payments, the important asset is USDC, a stablecoin designed to stay close to the value of one U.S. dollar.
2. Where do people buy USDC?
Most beginners buy USDC through a custodial crypto exchange or finance app. In that setup, the company holds the crypto for you until you withdraw it.
✓ Lets you buy USDC with your supported payment method
✓ Lets you withdraw or send USDC to an external wallet address
✓ Supports the same network shown during Sequence Matters checkout
✓ Clearly shows fees before you confirm
Sequence Matters does not require any specific exchange or wallet provider. Availability, fees, purchase methods, and supported networks can change, so confirm those details inside the app before buying.
3. Custodial vs. non-custodial
Custodial exchange or finance app
The company controls the wallet keys for you. You sign in with an account, buy USDC, and use a Send or Withdraw feature when you want to move it somewhere else.
Non-custodial / self-custody wallet
You control the wallet yourself. The wallet gives you a recovery phrase or seed phrase. Whoever has that phrase can control the wallet, so never share it.
Sequence Matters will never ask for your seed phrase, recovery phrase, private key, password, or exchange login.
4. How to buy USDC
Download or open a crypto exchange / finance app
Create an account and complete any identity verification the provider requires.
Add a purchase method
Depending on the provider, this may be a bank account, debit card, or another supported method.
Search for USDC
Make sure you are buying USDC, not USDT or another similarly named asset.
Buy enough for the order and fees
The amount Sequence Matters receives still needs to cover the full order total.
5. What is a wallet address?
A wallet address is like a destination for crypto. It is a long string of letters and numbers. You do not need to memorize it. You normally copy it from the person or checkout you are paying and paste it into your app’s Send or Withdraw screen.
Copy and paste it. Do not type it manually. Before confirming, compare the beginning and end of the address to make sure the pasted address matches what was shown at checkout.
6. How to send crypto from a custodial app
Step 2: Choose Send, Withdraw, or Send to external wallet.
Step 3: Paste the wallet address from the live Sequence Matters checkout into the recipient / destination / external wallet field.
Step 4: Select the exact network shown by Sequence Matters checkout.
Step 5: Enter the USDC amount.
Step 6: Review the address, network, amount, and fee before confirming.
Step 7: After the transfer is submitted, open the transaction details so you can find the TXID later.
7. How to send from a non-custodial wallet
The process looks similar, but a self-custody wallet may require the network’s native token to pay the blockchain fee. For example, a Solana wallet may need a small amount of SOL, while an Ethereum wallet may need ETH.
8. How to receive crypto
Receiving is the reverse. In your wallet or exchange, choose Receive or Deposit, select the token and network, then copy the wallet address it shows you. That is the address another person would paste into their Send screen.
Important: the sender and receiver must agree on the network. Do not assume two addresses or two versions of USDC are interchangeable.
9. Moving USDC from an exchange to your own wallet
This step is optional. You can often send directly from a custodial exchange to the Sequence Matters checkout address if that exchange supports the required network.
If you prefer self-custody, open your personal wallet, choose Receive, copy your own USDC wallet address for the correct network, then use the exchange’s Send/Withdraw feature to send USDC to yourself.
10. Direct from exchange vs. through your own wallet
Direct from custodial exchange
Fewer steps. You paste the Sequence Matters checkout address directly into the exchange’s external wallet / withdrawal screen and choose the required network.
Through your own wallet
More control, but also more responsibility. You withdraw USDC to your own wallet first, then send from your wallet to Sequence Matters.
Beginner safety checklist
✓ Copy and paste wallet addresses instead of typing them.
✓ Check the first and last characters after pasting.
✓ Make sure the network matches on both sides.
✓ Review fees before confirming.
✓ Never share your seed phrase or private key.
✓ Ignore wallet addresses sent through unsolicited DMs.
✓ If you are unsure, stop before sending.
